The Role

As a member of the GoPro Industrial Design Team, this successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of the GoPro brand and culture, a willingness to learn, and a strong history of delivering world class design. This Senior Industrial Designer will be an integral lead across all products and strategies that shape GoPro’s future through the highest level of collaboration and teamwork.

This role blends the best of Industrial Design with expertise in Colors, Materials, & Finishes (CMF), ergonomics, and usability for cameras, helmets, and associated mounts and accessories. You’ll be an extension to our US-based Industrial Design team and will remotely integrate and collaborate across your projects. You’ll work closely with our global engineering teams, Asia vendors and manufacturing partners to define, inspect, and drive design intent for production. You’ll also maintain and evolve the GoPro product design language by designing new concepts and product accessories to expand the GoPro portfolio. A high percentage of products we develop go to market and are used by a growing and very passionate audience. 


What You Will Do:

  • You’ll support the San Mateo, US and China ID development teams throughout the product lifecycle.
  • You’ll interface with the product development teams to qualify parts and review golden/limit samples to ensure quality and design intent.
  • You’ll drive CMF development needs and investigate emerging decorative technologies.
  • You’ll generate creative solutions to product issues using new materials, finishes and manufacturing processes.
  • You’ll create Class A freeform surfaces with high efficiency and quality.
  • You’ll collaborate in establishing core concepts and design specifications as part of the ID team from initial research to ideation all the way to production.
  • You’ll translate ideas and sketches into 3D prints and ID prototypes. 
  • You’ll travel about 20-30% of the time (domestically and internationally).

Skills We’re Stoked About

  • You have 7+ years of experience in consumer product design, where you worked in a multidisciplinary team of concepts all the way from tooling to production.
  • You have a BS in Industrial Design or Mechanical Engineering.
  • You have designed a lot of consumer products and seen them through the market.
  • You have designed consumer products that people can hold and touch.
  • You work frequently with 3D CAD and 2D design tools like Solidworks, Alias, Rhino, Keyshot, VRay, Mental Ray, Adobe Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • You have a strong understanding of manufacturing methods, processes, materials, and constraints.
  • You have experience with as many of the following as possible: Mechanical part design and manufacturing, paint, CNC, metal forming, extrusion, and casting, PVD, anodizing, printing, laser etching, two-shot plastic injection molding, and TPE/TPU/Silicone rubber molding techniques.
  • Professional working proficiency in English and Mandarin, both written and verbal.
