Location (Flexible Tokyo): This role requires proximity to an office location with the flexibility to work from home

 

We are seeking a top-tier candidate for the Director of Marketing for Japan based in Tokyo. This position can work remote but will require time spent in GoPro’s Tokyo office to help guide the existing marketing team and to interface and coordinate with the sales team.  

You will be responsible for building and executing our marketing strategy to support our retail business (both major retailers and specialty sales retailers) as well as our direct-to-consumer business. The position will report directly to the Vice President of Global Marketing.

You will interface closely with the head of sales and marketing for APAC as well as the marketing leadership team at HQ to develop high-level, cohesive strategic plans that align GoPro products, technology, and platforms in Japan.

 

 What You Will Do

  • Develop a marketing strategy to increase sales of our hardware products as well as software and subscription services.  
  • Build and steer country level Go-To-Market strategies for key products and initiatives in Japan collaborating with global marketing departments as well as regional Marketing, Channel Marketing, and Sales teams.
  • Strategically guide local marketing team and agencies and ensure implementation of all marketing tactics in close collaboration with HQ functional leads. Key functions are:
    • Overseeing the lifestyle and sports marketing initiatives, including athlete and event sponsorships
    • Overseeing the social media, influencer media and PR initiatives
    • Advising on advertising strategies
    • Developing brand strategy including brand awareness and perception building initiatives
    • Overseeing product training including all internal and external educational efforts
  • Collaborate with the Analytics team and regularly report regional relevant market insights to HQ for future development of global-strategy.
  • Lead the annual business planning process for the Japan including strategic adjustment, business function collaboration, budget planning and developing KPIs.
  • Work closely with the APAC sales team in collaboration with local distributors on all major retail marketing programs.

 

Skills We're Stoked About

  • BS required; MBA is a plus
  • 12+ years of relevant marketing experience in working in Japan within the Lifestyle, Action Sports or Consumer Electronics industries.
  • Professional working proficiency or higher in English and native level proficiency in Japanese.
  • Passionate: You are a fan of the brand and products and actively participating in one our key vertical activities. 
  • Strategic thinker: You have strong experience in guiding brands strategically in competitive and dynamic businesses.
  • Able to guide a small team but be willing to also help execute marketing initiatives. (not afraid to “get your hands dirty”)
  • Proven track record of leading initiatives, hitting goals, and succeeding in a team environment
